Complete 3D-Digitalization and µm-Accurate Inspection of Large Components

The HP-AX enables complete digitalization and micrometer-accurate inspection of large and complex components, providing a fast and reliable alternative to fluorescent penetrant inspection.

Why HP-AX defines a new level of performance

WLI_AutoInspect.jpg
The HP-AX is specifically designed for very large components, including engine parts, structural elements and complex geometries found in industrial and mechanical engineering applications. With powerful industrial robots featuring an extended workspace and additional external axes, the HP-AX fully digitalizes even massive parts seamlessly and in micrometer-level resolution.

The system captures highly precise 3D point clouds, detects even the smallest surface deviations and enables reliable, repeatable quality decisions.

The HP-AX is designed for continuous industrial operation. All components including sensors, robotics, illumination and software are engineered for stable and reliable 24/7 use.
Automated workflows, high repeatability and intelligent data handling ensure that inspection processes can run continuously, around the clock.

All process steps – from data acquisition and analysis to result interpretation – are fully integrated within 3D.OS, the modular software platform developed by 3D.aero.
3D.OS processes large data volumes in real time, automatically detects surface defects and visualizes results in an intuitive way for technicians and engineers.

All measurements are documented according to industry standards, stored securely and can be transferred directly into existing quality systems. The software forms the backbone of HP-AX automation: scalable, efficient and perfectly matched to high-precision sensor technology.

To ensure consistent micrometer-level accuracy, the HP-AX performs automatic self-checks and recalibration at regular intervals. The integrated recalibration function guarantees that both the sensor system and robotic motion always remain within their specified accuracy ranges.

In addition, the system conducts continuous gauge validation, an essential requirement for meeting industrial quality standards. This ensures that measurement results remain stable, reliable and fully traceable – even over very long operating cycles.

The HP-AX system is designed for the inspection of large and complex components. Using industrial robots with an extended workspace and additional external axes, even oversized parts can be fully digitalized and inspected at the push of a button with micrometer-level resolution.

The HP-AX was developed to replace traditional crack inspection based on fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) with a faster, more precise and fully digital alternative. Powered by white light interferometry, the system generates high-resolution surface data that enables significantly improved crack detection. In addition, the fully digitalized component model, including documented defects, creates the foundation for downstream automated processes such as milling or welding.

Cracks are detected and highlighted automatically, allowing operators to focus directly on potential damage locations instead of manually scanning the entire component.

The high resolution and multi-tool methodology also enable the reliable detection and documentation of dents, nicks, scratches, and signs of corrosion, which previously had to be laboriously identified manually as part of conventional inspections.
